Men’s briefs have no inseam. Therefore, they are shorter in leg length compared to a boxer or a trunk. They usually have full front, back and side coverage. However, some hybrid underwear briefs do not, such as Tangas, jock briefs and backless briefs. They are fitted in nature and usually have an element of spandex or elastane in the fabric to provide a form-fit. This reduces the chance of chafing in the material. The waistband is usually low to mid-rise, but with a mini or bikini brief style having no waistband and being cut super-low.

Briefs come in a wide variety of cuts:

– H-line briefs have a horizontal seam across the pouch

– A-line briefs have a fly front

– Y-fronts have a vertical seam and if you turn the underwear upside down, the trims will be a Y-shape

– Classic briefs have pouch trims but no central vertical or horizontal seams

– Pouch briefs have a smaller outer seam, with more focus on the pouch

Men’s brief styles are available as both underwear and swimwear options. Men’s swimming briefs have less leg length and material compared to swimming trunks or shorts. They are also very fitted. These characteristics reduce friction in the water which improves performance. And they are made with quick-dry materials.
