TOP MEN'S FASHION TRENDS THIS SUMMER

We’ve just launched our summer menswear range at VOCLA. Here, we look at the different menswear fashion trends evident this season, whether it's holiday menswear or clothes for the warmer months.

This summer we see trends in knitted mesh, crochet and lace fabrics. We also see prints with tropical and striped patterns. Our favourite styles are still super-short-leg shorts and sleeveless tanks, the perfect styles to keep you cool in the warmer weather.

The three main trends that we see are:

TREND 1: PRINTS AND PATTERNS

Prints and patterns are back: cool prints, graphics and printed menswear. This year has a great selection of prints: abstract, geometric, floral, stripes, animal, dots, chequered.

TREND 2: LIGHTWEIGHT KNITS IN MESH, CROCHET AND LACE

Knitted cotton has been trendy over the last few years. This year, we are seeing this trend expand to incorporate a range of prints into knits, such as jacquard prints or striped patterns. This is achieved with lightweight cotton knits, mesh, crochet and lace materials.

TREND 3: SHORT SHORTS

Short shorts, also known as super-short-legged shorts or men's booty shorts, are still popular. These mini beauties are usually packed with features like stretch material to show off your booty, pockets, belt loops and fly. They are versatile garments, suitable for a walk to the beach and smart enough for sitting outside a café for an alfresco lunch.

But that's not all, here are some more trends this summer...or you can view all our latest men's summer fashion trends.

LIGHTWEIGHT KNITS

Lightweight knits are smart choices for summer. They're made with lighter materials such as viscose, rather than heavy wool. We've seen a steady trend in lightweight knits over recent years. The knits have increasingly moved towards incorporating patterns such as stripes, herringbone and diamond mesh. Mesh or crochet fabric types are more breathable, ventilating you to keep cool.

The latest knit this season, and our favourite, is the CODE 22 Diamond Knit collection. This takes the lightweight summer knit trend to another level with a larger hole diamond pattern, which is slightly see-through, yet sophisticated, available as a polo shirt, stylish tank top, and trendy men's shorts. There are three colourways: ivory/off white, blue and black. The off-white colour will show off that tan on holiday.

LACE

Lace is a relative newcomer to menswear, given its feminine associations. But as barriers break down and gender becomes less consideration, our niche brands have started incorporating lace into their collections, as a more gender-neutral clothing option.

Lace is a sheer mesh material with a print sewn into the fabric. Its semi-transparent characteristics give it a sense of sexiness. The prints range from stripes to florals, but they are generally bold, yet manage to look elegant. You can’t argue that the model here is rocking that lace outfit.

Our favourite lace design is the Timoteo Positano collection, which is a sheer mesh floral lace available in seductive black. It's available as a shirt, shorts, tank top, cropped top and underwear, which can all pair together to create a full lace outfit.

SUPER-SHORT SHORTS

Shorts with super-short legs or 'short shorts' are the big trend. These booty shorts have very short inseams, around 2 to 4".

Our favourites are the CODE 22 Pocket Mini shorts. These top sellers at VOCLA are available in several colours to help create a unique outfit. And they are packed with features:

  • Jean-style shorts with zip-up fly, button fastening, belt loops and pockets
  • Versatility – they’re suitable for daywear and evening wear, whether going to the beach or a smarter occasion
  • Super stretchy cotton and elastane fabric, which gives a figure-hugging fit

FLORALS & TROPICAL PRINTS

Who doesn't secretly love a Hawaiian shirt? Bursting with colour, floral and tropical prints can set your outfit apart from the rest. It's not just shirts, we have a range of swimwear, shorts, t-shirts and tank tops in florals. Florals are not just for spring, Miranda Priestley!

This aussieBum Vacay polo shirt punches the flower power print on a relaxed fit polo.

We hold another Australian brand, 2eros, offering a fantastic choice of prints with tropical, oriental, and Pacific influences within their swimwear.

GEOMETRIC PATTERNS

Historically, stripes have been the most common pattern in men's fashion swimwear, particularly sailor stripes, with their nod to the nautical theme and seaside.

But this year, we see a surge in geometric patterns. SUKREW offers tropical and geometric swimwear prints. 2eros swimwear has several geometric prints. And Modus Vivendi has launched the Geometric rainbow collection. We're highlighting the Modus Vivendi Rainbow collection here with its geometric prints in rainbow colours because it combines two patterns. And it is Pride month.

DENIM SHORTS

Well, strictly denim shorts never really went out of fashion. And they are a hard-wearing, versatile, timeless item to have in your wardrobe. It's the cut of these men's denim shorts that evolves with trends and the colour washes. Mid-blue, light wash and black are popular at the moment. And the trend, as highlighted above, is shorter legs. And they don't get much shorter than these Timoteo Santorini denim shorts. They're so short, the pockets are popping out of the legs. Let's hope that's all that pops out!
