Men’s underwear continues to evolve, introducing new styles every year. One of the most popular modern styles over recent years at VOCLA has been the jockstrap. But this has various new hybrid versions: a jock brief, jock boxer and jock thong. But what are they?

WHAT IS A JOCK BRIEF?

The jock brief is a combination of both a jockstrap and a brief, sometimes referred to as a bottomless brief, air jock or brief jock. The jock straps can be either fabric or elasticated. Basically, an open back or assless brief.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF A JOCK BRIEF?

  • Air circulation – the open back allows air to circulate more easily. This gives the underwear better ventilating properties compared to a standard brief, helping to keep you cool and dry. This ventilation could be very helpful in warmer climates, on holiday or for working out. It’s also the reason that brands such as Andrew Christian refer to the style as an ‘Air Jock’. Andrew Christian Air Jocks are often made with mesh material which also helps to ventilate, providing a quick-drying, sporty, piece of underwear.
  • Less exposure – a traditional jockstrap is sometimes just a little too exposed for some people. The straps can also feel a little tight. A brief jock usually has material instead of elasticated straps, providing more comfort around the legs. The extra material on the jock brief can help make you feel less exposed.
  • Sexy look – we will admit it, it is a little cheeky. Imagine pulling down your pants in the bedroom and revealing a jock brief – hello tiger!

WHAT IS A JOCK BOXER?

The jock boxer is a combination of both a jockstrap and a boxer or trunk underwear, sometimes referred to as a bottomless boxer, access trunk or boxer jock. It is a full-cover boxer or trunk to the front and sides, with an open back. A good example is the PUMP Access Trunk style, which is hugely popular.

WHAT IS A JOCK THONG?

Wait a minute! There’s another similar hybrid too – the jock thong. And one brand does this really well. The SUKREW V thong is a mix of a brief, jockstrap and thong, all in one! The jock thong has a full front cover, like a traditional brief, limited side material, fabric jock straps to the rear and a thong piece. Now that’s hot!
